The core of the Botany Department Herbarium, which revolve around the activities of most researchers. As its core activity is plant systematics, the Department has recognized experts in several important plant groups. In addition, members of staff specialists in mycology, mycotoxins, Biodeterioration of forest products, wood anatomy, synecology in arid and biology of palms and aquatic plants.


As part of a program to strengthen research in systematic plant, the Department has made efforts to train postgraduate students in this area and to promote the development of a new line of research in evolutionary botany. Thus, the Department has three foreign scholars studying his PhD. Two of these, conducted studies of vascular plant biosystematics at the University of Connecticut and Cornell, and one more is being prepared in line with evolutionary botany at the University of Chicago. In addition, a student is staying at the University of Arizona, where he develops his thesis on systematic lichens, and another one is about to start a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Georgia, to fortify its research capacity in the area of \u200b\u200bsystematic micromycetes.
