Warwick researchers estimated that during the Middle Ages the inhabitants of the City of London recorded an average annual income $ 1,000 (prices expressed in 1990).
The figure of $ 1,000 is quite significant: the economic standards of the world's largest economy 600 years ago (which had not yet made the industrial revolution) are better than the next most disadvantaged countries in the world:
- Afghanistan, $ 869 of GDP per capita
- Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone
